Ovechkin Sets All-Time Capitals Scoring Record

November 4th was the day that Alex Ovechkin captured yet another franchise record for the Washington Capitals in just ten seasons of play with the organization. He has dethroned Peter Bondra for most total points as a Capital.
Tuesday night, marked a special day for Ovechkin, Bondra, and Caps fans everywhere. Ovechkin score his 826th point as a Capital, stealing the record for total points scored as part of Washington. He has since scored two more points, giving him a grand total of 828 points.
The goal came against the Calgary Flames. Tom Wilson passed the biscuit up to Ovechkin, who then took a shot on net that Nicklas Backstrom deflected in over Flames tender, Jonas Hiller. This goal contributed to the Caps taking the game into overtime but they could not score to take the win.
When asked Bondra said “He is an extremely talented player and I couldn’t be happier for him on achieving this great milestone. I extend to him my most sincere congratulations for passing my mark and becoming Washington’s franchise point’s leader. I wish him good luck in the rest of his career as he continues to rewrite the Capitals’ history books.”
Ovechkin hopes to make more history in his coming years and is on the brink of claiming even more records. He is 44 goals from topping the franchise goal record and 18 assist away from the assist record. The next Caps game is Veteran’s Day against the Blue Jackets at 7pm in Washington.
