Beautiful Dresses, Surprise Winners and Lots of Sweat at Golden Globes

On January 11th at 3pm PT, the 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards were held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills.

The night was full of beautiful dresses, surprise category winners, and… sweat. Many of the presenters and guests seemed to be uncomfortable in their suits due to the air conditioning which had been shut down. And the humidity from the dreary weather was not helping either.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosted once again, only this time their opening jokes were a little more flat than in years past. Maybe it was the humidity, or maybe last year just wasn’t funny enough.

Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig, however, brought their comical attitudes to present the winners from Birdman for Best Screenplay. “Who could forget that famous line in Titanic when the boat’s sinking and Leonardo DiCaprio is like ‘Hey guys, guys, guys, guys, guys! Relax.’” While the guests weren’t falling out of their seats laughing, it brought a lighter mood to the room.

Some of the most notable winners included Boyhood for Best Motion Picture, Drama, The Affair for Best TV Series, Drama, and Joanne Froggatt in Downton Abbey for Best Supporting Actress in a Series. However, some winners like Kevin Spacey in House of Cards for Best Actor in a TV Series, Drama were somewhat expected.

George Clooney, who was presented with the Cecil B. DeMille Award, said, “Now that we’ve all been hacked,” in reference to the Sony hackings, “it’s also a good chance for us to meet face-to-face and apologize for all the snarky things we’ve said about each other.” Clooney wore a Je Suis Charlie pin on the left side of his jacket in respect to the recent attacks in France.

While this year’s awards were a little dull, there are plenty of chances at the upcoming Grammy and Academy Awards in February, and the Tonys in June.
