WHS Drama Department Decorates Windows at Trouts Towne Restaurant
by Tessa Brubaker
On Sunday October 25th, a group of students from the Walkersville Theatre Department went over to Trouts Towne Restaurant in Woodsboro to decorate the windows to promote their upcoming shows. Trouts generously gave up three of their windows, so the actors decorated for A High-Schooler’s Guide to the Galaxy, The Winter’s Tale, and The Little Mermaid, the three mainstage shows they will be performing this year.
One of the students who came to help out, Junior Cody Strange, joked, “It was fun because the windows were tinted so I couldn’t tell if people were staring at me or not.” On a more serious note, Strange added, “It was a big opportunity Walkersville theatre has to showcase our shows. While we were decorating, people came up and asked about it, so it’s definitely good for publicity.” International Thespian Society President and senior at WHS, Becky Brown was in attendance and reached out to people over Facebook to encourage students to come and help out.
The President of the Parent Drama Boosters, Erik Secula, set up the whole thing for WHS theatre and said, “Trout’s Towne Restaurant has been a long-time fixture in our community and is one of the biggest supporters of Walkersville High Theatre. Having the students gather to decorate the restaurant not only spreads the word about the program and the upcoming fall production, but it is a small way of showing the owners how much we appreciate their support.” The Drama Boosters are set out to fundraise for Walkersville theatre, and so far this year they are off to a great start.
Junior Kayla Swain, who also participated, said, “We had a great time decorating Trouts Restaurant on Sunday and it was great to be there to decorate and get publicity for our shows. I had a lot of fun.”
If you want to see the decorations for yourself, head on over to Trouts Restaurant for some breakfast and take a look. WHS theatre’s most recent show is The High-Schooler’s Guide to the Galaxy which shows November 19th to the 21st at 7pm, and November 22nd at 2pm.
