Boys Basketball Finished Improving Year with Loss to Middletown in Play-offs
by Mackenzie White
The Boys Varsity Basketball team lost in their second round of playoffs against a tough Middletown team on Monday night. The Lions had a great season, but just could not pull out the win.
Senior Becca Koontz said, “They had an impressive season. They started off rough but then they really picked up speed. Even though they didn’t get the outcome they wanted last night they did try their hardest. They should be proud of the way they played this season. That loss does not define them.”
For the seniors on the team, it had to be a very emotional game. This was their last time playing basketball at the high school level. Senior Jared Spriggs said, “I definitely feel like we could have played better; we had a lot of mistakes and turnovers.”
Senior point guard Keanu Rosa said, “We didn’t come through, but I’m proud of our effort. We got exhausted really quickly and they were making all of their shots so it kept getting tougher and tougher throughout each quarter. And then we fell short at the very end. This is probably the best season I’ve had in high school. It’s been a fun year; we’ve exceeded over double-digit wins which is an accomplishment. I’m proud of everybody.”
For some of the boys, they have a chance to redeem themselves next year. Junior CJ Barndollar said, “It was sad, but you know that we’re gonna come back stronger next year. I just want to thank the seniors because they helped us get to where we got.”
Junior forward Kyle Dagget said, “Last night was an unfortunate way to go out, but I think we improved a lot since last year. I know we’re going to be on our grind in the off-season and come back stronger next year.”
The boys had a season full of hard work and improvement as well as some very intense games. Next season awaits them!
