Commercial Successful Video Game Skyrim Remastered For Current Consoles

The 2011 smash hit, Skyrim, is receiving a remaster under the name The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition, and people are hyped. Alongside the availability of modding games on Xbox One, there is a possibly on PS4.

The game is known for keeping the players attention for hundreds, sometimes thousands of hours. As of September 20th, 2016, the game is sitting at 15th most played on Steam alone, with 23,515 average players within the last month. Compared to its predecessor, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, which sold 9.5 million worldwide, Skyrim has moved 22.7 million copies across all platforms, selling seven million to retailers on launch. The game has also won over 200 Game of the Year awards from hundreds of publications, and the game’s developer and publisher, Bethesda, has taken notice.

Needless to say, the game was popular among both lifelong fans, critics and the general gaming public. After waiting with bated breath half a decade for a sequel to one of Bethesda’s best selling games to date, they do not have another Elder Scrolls sequel, but the remaster is bound to be greatly appreciated by the fans.

Microsoft announced that the Xbox One would start giving access to mods on consoles allowing modding on games such as Fallout 4 and Skyrim. Although Sony is promising the same, they backed out later due to foreseen compatibility issues. Mods breathed new life into the original game in a way that it would not have survived for as long as it did without it. “I’m a huge fan of Skyrim, and when I was playing on console, I had no mods; now that I’ll have mods, I’ll be playing that for a while,” said sophomore Joe Hansen.

The game, from what Bethesda has released, seems to only be a graphical overhaul. Some people do not think the game is necessary, unless it does more than up the graphic potential. “I feel like they didn’t need to make a remastered version unless they’re touching up the gameplay, for the graphics you could just get graphical mods.” said junior Brian Thebau.

The game is scheduled to be released on October 28th, 2016.
