Lions Thump Frederick 6-0 in Girls Soccer

by Chad Gleason

The girls soccer game at Frederick was a shutout that everyone on the team contributed to. Going into this game, the girls knew that it was going to be one of the easier ones, but the seniors made sure they stayed humble. The girls scored six goals while Fredericks scored zero. Senior Megan Wells had one, senior Emma Bernardoni had two, freshman Halle O’Keefe had one, senior Maddie Hommey had one, and senior Maddie Sorrel had one. It was a great game for the team.

“We wanted to come out with a lot of energy and excitement even though they were not the best team. We also wanted to get the whole team involved throughout the game to make our team more well rounded so everyone gets better,” Wells said.

“I felt pretty excited to lead the team in goals. We knew that going into the game that we were not playing a very tough opponent so we wanted to make sure to not let Frederick hang around with us. I think the big win is good momentum for us going into our Thursday game against a much tougher opponent,” Bernardoni said.

“So we knew going into Frederick is not very good, but in past years that meant we would not be focused or ready for the game because we looked at it lightly. Winning 6-0 really shows how we have grown this year and are able to take care of business. A win like that is a huge confidence builder, when you are scoring and playing well everyone feels good and that is really important for us right now. Our upcoming game against Urbana is almost the opposite because we know they are very good, so it is important we take that momentum into the Urbana game,” Hommey said.

They are hoping to carry this momentum into the Urbana game so they can pull off the upset.
