First Saturday In Downtown Frederick Filled with Festive Fun
by Brianna Drury
First Saturday in beautiful downtown Frederick is the perfect end to a day of work or a Saturday running errands. For the first Saturday in November a free horse drawn carriage ride is being offered in honor of the upcoming holiday season and many businesses offer a variety of activities like roasting marshmallows in front of Time Bomb or watching Christmas movies like Elf next to Frederick Coffee Co.
Many businesses downtown extend business hours on every First Saturday so the people attending can enjoy the shops and start their holiday shopping early. First Saturday went from 3 to 9 on November 5th. “I go downtown for every first Saturday with my family because they add decorations and special events to the fun,” said Monica Gallien.
First Saturdays are always a bit busier than typical Saturdays meaning more traffic and less parking but if you don’t mind the walk you are in for a great night. “I love going downtown on first Saturdays with my friends and my wife it is much more lively and though the lines are long it’s worth it for such a lovely experience,” said Jonathan Gallien.
I really loved the marshmallow roasting and the movies they played. They had Elf and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer on a big screen and Elf is the best Christmas movie ever. I had so much fun,” said second grader Zoey Funk.
“I really liked the pretty lights and the ice cream we had after was a great end to the night,” said fifth grader Lexi Funk. Buildings all around downtown were decked in gorgeous white Christmas lights and everywhere you went there were large crowds of people, while near the movie screen there were many children sitting around intently watching. The stores were packed with people of all ages and many offered tempting desserts, or an environment overflowing with good vibes.
