A Whipped Cream Tragedy Has Struck the USA!

by Jessica Bentley

A tragedy has struck the nation! The whipped cream factory in Florida that produces the nitrous oxide for the cans of whipped cream exploded, and  burned down recently. [1] Now this is not a lie and it is a bigger deal than you would think.

Who knew a factory that made whipped cream burning down would cause problems? I mean there has to be more than one factory. If there is, I guess the stores have not discovered it or the rest of the places that use whipped cream.

Now this did not happen last week, it was sometime right before Christmas. The news first hit me when I was at Starbucks and they asked if I wanted whipped cream, and I was like well duh what else is there. Then they proceeded to tell me that they actually don’t have any because the factory burnt down. I proceeded to drink my whipped creamless beverage, but I was still skeptical if this was true. Then my mom’s friend told me it is a true statement and it will be a big deal.

“I heard about it, but didn’t think it was a big deal. I figured it would all balance out. I actually forgot about it until I saw a sign in the store, and realized it was a serious thing. Then I was really sad,” said freshman Hannah Benson.

I still did not fully believe how big a deal it was, and forgot about it. Well boy was I wrong, I was at the store the other day and my mom told me to grab a can of whipped cream. I go to where the whipped cream was and there was a yellow sign up. It read something along the lines of due to a national shortage we are currently out of whipped cream, please try our whipped topping (Cool Whip) located over in the other section.

“They are not the same thing at all. I feel Cool Whip is better than whipped cream,” said junior Alexis Brunnelson.

Well it is a big problem. I love to put whipped cream on my ice cream, hot chocolate, and even on my waffles or pancakes sometimes. Now I also like Cool Whip for completely different things, on my jello, on top of a cake my mom makes, and in some recipes. These two items are completely different. They can not just be substituted for the other. Whipped cream is more light and airy. Cool Whip has a denser consistency and flavor.

Benson agreed, “Whipped cream and Cool Whip are not the same thing. Cool Whip is thicker.”

Freshman Tessa Newton on the other hand said, “They need to get their act together. People need their whipped cream. I do think the two are the same. Cool Whip is just another brand.”

There is another problem with this whole whipped cream factory burning down. If you are lucky to find any whipped cream, the stores are almost completely out. Then they raise the prices, so you pay like three dollars for a single can.

All I have to say is that they better solve this whole whipped cream problem before they run out completely. Although through all this I have realized how much I value whipped cream. I did not realize how often I use it. There is a lesson to be learned in all this, appreciate the little things in life, like whipped cream on my ice cream, and Cool Whip on my jello.
