Girls B-Ball Crushes Brunswick to Move to 16-1 On the Year
by Alec Parker
The girls basketball team played Brunswick last night, and let’s just say it wasn’t even close. Walkersville Lions won by 40 points. With nine different scorers the Lions won 64-24.
The Lions played some spectacular defense only giving up four points in the first quarter. Multiple steals, and blocks from Walkersville created some fast break opportunities, and scores from Eve Bernardoni. She hit three triples in the first half. Another great player in the first half was junior Sofia Bowers.
In the second quarter the Walkersville girls continued their dominance on the glass, and the defense was just too good for Brunswick. The offense also was tip top, with 22 points scored in the second quarter, making the score 36-11 at halftime. The Lions came back from the half just as hyped, and ready for Brunswick’s relentless offense.
At the beginning of the third quarter, the Lions continued to rebound, and get plenty of put backs. The threes continued to rain like a tropical storm. The fourth had a slower pace and the Lions put in much of the bench in the fourth, but continued playing great both ways. At the end the Lions had three different players with ten plus points. The final score was Walkersville 64 Brunswick 24.
“This was a very great game by Walkersville. They played amazing both ways, and pushed the tempo with a lot of fast breaks,” said junior Jacob Wetzel.
“The pain that Brunswick must be in is unexplainable. They just got whipped buzzer to buzzer. The Lions just kept stirring the pot,” said senior Garrett Allen.
“The Lady Lions will not lose again; we’re going states, and we’re not looking back. They played so well, and I’m really proud of the whole team,” said senior Ari Biggus.
Their record has now improved 16-1. The girls basketball team next game will be at Catoctin this Friday at 7pm.
