Michigan Wins the Big 10 Championship, Held for the First Time in Washington D.C.

The 2017 Big Ten Men’s basketball tournament took place March 8-12 at the Verizon Center in Washington D.C.
Team powerhouses like Purdue, Wisconsin, Michigan, Michigan State, and Maryland are battling to be at the top of the Big 10!
On March 10th the Maryland boys team, that are ranked No.3 took on Northwestern No.6. After a hard fought game the Maryland boys just came up short, with a score of 64-72.
Hometown favorite Maryland shot under 50% from the field, while Northwestern shot 55%. Northwestern was having a strong game, and everyone was shocked when Maryland didn’t come out with the win.
Junior Rian Wright said, “I watched the whole game from home, and I wish I could’ve been there to see it live. Maryland didn’t play as good as they usually did because they definitely could’ve won, but it was a great game.” Junior Hannah Rice echoed Wright, “I was very upset when Maryland lost because they absolutely deserve it more than any other team. Melo Trimble was having an off night, and the team didn’t know how to react to it. They are an amazing team and I love watching them play.”
Wisconsin took down Indiana, 70-60 in the quarterfinals and after Wisconsin went to the semifinals on March 11th and blew pass Northwestern, 76-48. Michigan held off Minnesota with a score of 84-77. Wisconsin faced off Michigan for the championship title on March 12th at noon.
“Wisconsin is doing tremendous, and I couldn’t be happier. I love Wisconsin and I hope they win the Big 10 championship because they deserve it,” said sophomore Eve Bernardoni. Sophomore Julie Wallace argued, “No. Michigan is definitely going to win, they have an overall better team, so I guarantee Michigan will get the winning title.”
Michigan ended up winning the Big 10 Tournament championship game, 71-56.
