M. Night Shyamalan is known for surprises and twists, and on April 26th he gave fans some unbelievable news. The successful director announced his next film Glass, which will be a sequel to 2000’s Unbreakable and 2017’s Split.
On April 26th Shyamalan tweeted, “And the film is called GLASS…” and later went on to tweet “Universal Pictures will release #Glass on January 18, 2019 all over the world. How’s that for not keeping a secret!”
Glass will star Bruce Willis, Samuel Jackson, and James McAvoy. They will reprise their roles from their previously successful films Unbreakable and Split.
Unbreakable is a great film that tells us the story of a secret mad man as well as a developing hero. “It was very different from what I’d expect from a superhero movie, but I liked the movie and the hidden character a lot. I thought his weakness was a little strange though, but it all worked wonderfully,” said senior Donavon Key.
Shyamalan’s Split was received very well and James McAvoy was praised for his outstanding performance as a man with 23 distinct personalities. “James McAvoy was very thorough with his different states of identity, which made for an entertaining performance,” said senior Rylee Duncan.
In the end of Split there was a brief clip at the end of the film that inferred that the two stories were connected, and it got fans extremely excited. In the clip it showed Bruce Willis’s character from Unbreakable David Dunn sitting at a diner, and there is mention of Samuel Jackson’s character Mr. Glass.
Senior Jaxon Harris said “Split and Unbreakable were really good, so it would be awesome to see a movie with the main characters interacting, and any movie with Sam Jackson is fire.”
The long awaited sequel to David Dunn’s story will be set up in a new film with antagonists from Split and Unbreakable. Go see the next chapter Glass on January 18, 2019.
