President Trump and His Connections with Russia Are Being Investigated By a Special Prosecuter
by Madison Cooper
Just when everyone thought the President Trump’s Russia investigation was coming to a screeching halt, it’s brought back up again.
As everyone already knows Trump fired James Comey, the head of the FBI a few weeks back. According to Trump it was due to his harsh treatment towards Hillary Clinton during her email scandal throughout the 2016 election. Although many believe it was in efforts to silence and/or end the investigation Comey had opened on Trump and his alleged connection to Russia (as well as how it may have influenced the 2016 election). By firing Comey and implementing a lenient FBI Director that could have potentially dropped the case.
Although, luckily that’s not the case as on Wednesday of last week the Justice Department appointed former FBI director Robert Mueller to oversee the ongoing investigation on Trump’s connections to Russia. “I accept this responsibility and will discharge it to the best of my ability,” Mueller said in a brief statement.
In a statement released by the White House Trump seemingly took the news with grace stating, “As I have stated many times, a thorough investigation will confirm what we already know — there was no collusion between my campaign and any foreign entity. I look forward to this matter concluding quickly.” It seems pretty clear that message was not written by Trump, because later that day he took to twitter in a rant stating “With all of the illegal acts that took place in the Obama Administration, there was never a special counsel appointed.” He then went on tweeting “This is the single greatest witch hunt of a politician in American history.”
I asked WHS what they thought about the situation and here’s what they had to say about the matter. Junior Madison Farling said “I don’t keep up with politics, but it sounds like they have things under control now.” Senior Taylor Mercer said “It sounds like he knows what he’s doing, and he’s better than the other guy you mentioned (Comey).” Senior Victoria Juster added “Everything that’s going on is so messed up — they just need to get it together.”
Although Trump may not be thrilled about the further investigation many politicians from both Democratic and Republican parties feel Mueller is the up for the job.
