Softball Loses Tough Game Against Catoctin 13-5
by Christina Huffer
The Walkersville Lions softball team played a hard fought game against Catoctin, on Monday May 1st; but fell short 13-5.
They had some good hits by senior Aly Riggs, and freshmen Justeen Cooley, and amazing pitching by sophomore Lindsey Windsor.
The softball girls have had an strong season so far, with 12 wins and only 5 losses. They have fought hard and won some tough games and then there were some blow out games with them on top.
“We started out strong, hitting well and held them at first. Then they started hitting, which lead to errors, not moving to the ball, and not getting it where it needed to go which let them get many outs. In addition a lot of girls were walked.” commented pitcher Lindsey Windsor.
The team did a great job during the game, because last time they played Catoctin the score wasn’t as close. They learned from their mistakes and played harder than they did the first time.
“We put the ball in play a lot, and we had very good, hard shots; so overall we improved our hitting. We just need to improve on the little things.” said catcher Kate Donaghue.
Catoctin went all the way to states last year which qualifies them to be the best team in the district.
“The girls played a solid game, but it wasn’t enough to pull it off. Catoctin is a strong competitor and we knew we had to play an all around good game,” expressed Head Coach Erinne Warrenfeltz.
The girls have one more game of the regular season and then exciting playoff games start next Friday, May 12th. They have a great chance of getting really far in the playoff games, as hopefully they have the confidence and they encouragement to go all the way.
