by Alec Parker
The Celtics and Wizards series is one to watch. The series is tied 2-2, with game five tonight at 8:00 PM. Both teams are 2-0 at home and 0-2 on the road. Celtic won the first two games, with an incredible comeback in game two. Then the Wizards came back and won the last two games by more than 15 points both times.
In game one the Celtics were lead by Isaiah Thomas, Al Horford, Jae Crowder, and Avery Bradley. Those four players combined for 96 points, 15 three pointers made, 21 rebounds, 24 assists, five steals, and two blocks. The Wizards were lead by John Wall, Bradley Beal, Marcin Gortat, and Otto Porter Jr. Those four player combined for 79 points, 32 made field goals, 29 rebounds, 25 assists, five steals, and five blocks. The Celtics however won the first game 123-111.
In the second game the Celtics won again in overtime as they came back down from 20 at halftime. Celtics relied heavily on Thomas who scored 53 points. The Celtics also had help from Horford who dropped a double-double, and Crowder and Bradley who combined for 28 points. The Wizards again needed John wall to keep them in the game. Wall had 40 points, 13 assists, three steals, and three blocks. Wizards also had help from Gortat’s double-double, and Otto Porter’s 13 points, and nine rebounds. However the Wizards fell short again, and now were down 2-0 to the Celtics.
When everything was looking down for the Wizards, somehow Kelly Oubre Jr. brought a spark to the team by shoving Kelly Olynyk, and getting ejected from the game. The Wizards in game three stepped it up defensively. The Wizards had seven steals, and five blocks, also forced 16 turnovers by the Celtics. Wizards also got some on offense help too by John Wall, Marcin Gortat, and Bojan Bogdanovic. These three players combined for 56 points, 27 rebounds, and 12 assists. Celtics just looked really sloppy, and played very slow. The final score was 116-89, and the Wizards claimed one game.
In the fourth game the Wizards once again played great offense, and defense. The Wizards had 13 steals, and forced the Celtics to turn the ball over 18 times. The Wizards offense was off the charts. John Wall, Otto Porter Jr., Markieff Morris, and Bradley Beal combined for 90 points, 25 rebounds, 19 assists, and 13 steals. Again the Celtics were off their game. Isaiah Thomas, and Al Horford were both -30 differential when on the court. The Wizards won this game by a commanding 19 points, but more important they tied this series up 2-2 a piece.
“I got Wizards in six. Marcin Gortat is so effective, because he’s the best center in the league. His D is ferocious. If the Wizards want to win they need to shut down Isiah Thomas and Avery Bradley. The Wizards need to win this round because they have no chance next round against the Cavs,” said senior Bryan Johnson.
“I want the The Wizards to win but the Celtics are going to win in seven. Both John Wall and Isiah Thomas because they’re are both great PG’s. Also the beef between the two teams is nice. John Wall and Bradley Beal definitely need to work together and Gortat needs to step it up on defense,” said senior BJ Borowski.
“I have the Wizards in six. John Wall is so explosive, and is almost unstoppable. I think Isaiah Thomas is really good but he gets too many calls his way. I think if John Wall keeps up his pace, and the Wizards really work as a team they can easily win,” said freshman Ty Collins.
The Wizards really have pushed the Celtics to their limits. This will be really good rest of the series. I think the Celtics have the advantage with home court tonight, and in game seven. I would though like to see the Wizards finally make to the Eastern Conference Finals.
