The Walkersville girls field hockey team takes on their third game after two tough losses. Despite the prior loses the girls field hockey players were pumped for their game.
On Thursday, September 14th, the team took on the Thomas Johnson Patriots. This was their first home game of the season.
Junior Baylor Baxley said before the game, “I am very excited for the game because we are actually better this year so I have a feeling we will have a good outcome.” Junior Mckenzie Pope added, “I think we’re gonna win because TJ isn’t that good this year and we’re much better this year.”
Within the first five minutes of the game starting, Pope scored on TJ. Later in the first period the Patriots scored. At the end of the first period it was tied up 1-1. Four minutes into the second half of the game sophomore Emily Goline scored and put Walkersville up 2-1. In the second half of the game senior Alyssa Roscowinski scored which put the Lions up by two.
Walkersville pushed through until the end of the game and beat the Patriots 3-1. Sophomore goalie Ishani Tewari commented, “I think I played well, I was nervous at first, but I blocked twice the amount of shots I let in. The field players didn’t really let the ball get to me so I’m thankful for that, it was a great first win for our season.”
Junior Maddie Holley commented on how she thought the team played as a whole. “I think we started out playing at their level but at half time it was 1-1. We knew we had to step it up. The team really came together and got our first win of the season.”
