New Chick-fil-A and Starbucks Have Walkersville Students Buzzing
by Madison Miller
Does anybody really want to drive over 20 minutes to get to the closest Chick-fil-A? Most likely, no. That’s why our little town is ecstatic for the new restaurant to be built right on Monocacy Boulevard in Frederick, MD. Coffee lovers in our area are excited for the new Starbucks with a drive-thru to be built there too.
When it comes to food, everybody is excited for the new arrival. Many people are happy they won’t have to drive over 20 minutes and sit in traffic just to go to Chick-fil-A. But there are some people opposing the creation of the new food places.
Freshman Cheyenne Hudson had nothing but good things to say in anticipation for the new Chick-fil-A,“It’s going to be a lot easier and it’s a lot closer to everything. There’s a lot of future job opportunities for my age group.” “The Chick-fil-A and Starbucks are a plus, but if a Taco Bell would be added that would be great. It has great job opportunities for the high school kids,” said junior Chianne Downing. It seems like most kids here are excited to get jobs at the new places, because the new additions are within walking distance.
Almost everybody is excited for the food there. Freshman Adamah Jackson added, “I’m really excited for the Chick-fil-A. I don’t drink coffee so I’m not as excited for the Starbucks. But the cake pops from Starbucks are really good.”
The people in our area are looking forward to having more food choices instead of only having the regular fast food restaurants McDonalds and Roy Rogers. “It’s great because we needed a Chick-fil-A closer to our area. It gives Walkersville residents a wide variety of food places to go to,” said senior Taylor Gizinski. “I’m happy that there’s going to be a Chick-fil-A opening because it’s closer to Walkersville. I’m excited for the new Starbucks because it’s bigger and has a drive thru,” said sophomore Megan Sharma.
Although most people are looking forward to the new arrivals, some aren’t liking all the building going on in that area. “I don’t like all the building being done because I don’t like how much land they are taking up. There’s a beautiful building next to the Walmart and it’s slowly becoming non visible because of all the building,” said junior Claire Lynch. Talking further with her, Lynch added how she “dislikes how much [land] they are taking up to build all these huge new buildings.”
Almost all residents in Walkersville are waiting in excitement for the new food restaurants, but we still have some people wishing there wasn’t so much building going on. People can’t wait to get their hands on a chicken sandwich and a frappe from the new restaurants. Starbucks is opening on Thursday, September 21st, and Chick-fil-A is opening Thursday, October 5th.
