On November 2nd the Walkersville High School Cross Country team ran at the regional championships at Liberty High School. While many were worried about making it to states, there were others that were filled with excitement and hope for the upcoming race. The Lions have had a rough season and yesterday they proved to be part of the winning Lion team.
“I’m not really excited about the meet, I feel more nervous than excited since it is such a pivotal meet and there so much pressure on the team as a whole,” junior Mara Lucic said before her big race, “I am nervous because our region is better than last year, so it will be harder to make it to states. But I feel like because of our progression with our new coach, our team will be safe. We will make it to States!” commented senior Will Staab. While Staab is excited to have made it to states, there are others whose seasons have officially come to an end due to the fact they didn’t qualify.
“Well we didn’t make it to states and everyone raced badly” said Leucic after her race.
“The weather made it a good day to run. I thought I ran pretty well and I’m happy I made it to states, but I’m pretty bummed the team wasn’t able to,” said Staab after his race. Staab placed 15th, qualifying him for the State Meet as an individual.
Although the team didn’t make is to states as a whole, at the end of the day they each raced their hearts out and never gave up. The Lion family is very proud of them! We look forward to watching the lions who qualified for states.
