Mark Wahlberg Donates Entire Reshoot Money to Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund

After allegations against actor Kevin Spacey came out, actor Mark Wahlberg was hired to do reshoots alongside Michelle Williams. Reports came out that there was a large pay gap between Wahlberg and Williams for the reshoots. Wahlberg made a grand total of $1.5 million and Williams made less than $1,000 for reshoots.
“I think it’s terrible that he made so much more money than [Williams]. They did the same work and they should be paid equally.” said senior Sarah McElwain.
After receiving backlash from fans Wahlberg pledged to donate his $1.5 million to the Time’s Up legal defense in Michelle William’s name. “Over the last few days my reshoot fee for All the Money in the World has become an important topic of conversation,” he said in his statement. “I 100% support the fight for fair pay and I’m donating the $1.5 million to the Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund in Michelle Williams’ name.”
The main question is, why was there such a gap in the first place? The two actors were doing the same work at the same time. The only difference was gender. “I mean, pay gaps have been around forever; it’s not something new. It’s a really good thing that attention is being brought to the issue but it should have never been an issue in the first place.” said senior Felicity Borge. “I think that the two actors should have made the same money in the first place. Just because Mark Wahlberg was being hired in place of Kevin Spacey, that doesn’t mean he can be paid whatever he wants,” said senior Parker Montour.
“I think it’s a great thing that he is donating all of that money to the Time’s Up initiative. They could definitely use the money and it’s a great cause to donate to. I’m glad Mark Wahlberg came to his senses and did the right thing. I definitely think more attention should be brought to the issue,” said McElwain. It is definitely a good thing people are talking about the pay issue. With more attention and awareness issues like this will be a thing of the past.
