Parents Who Held Their Children Captive Are Arrested
by Alex Hearn
David Allen Turpin and his wife, Louise Anna Turpin held their thirteen children captive in their house. The Turpin’s would only let them eat one real meal a day, and only let them shower twice a year.
This disturbing story comes out from California, in Riverside County, East of Los Angeles.
The children were aged from two to 29, and were chained to furniture. It was noted that the rooms inside the house were filled with urine.
All of the children have been admitted into hospital to be treated.
The Turpins are currently on a nine million dollar bail.
Louise’s sister, Teresa Robinette, never expected trouble with the family. She said in an interview, “We always thought she was living the perfect life.” She added, “She would tell us they went to Disneyland all the time, [and that] they would go to Vegas.”
The imprisonment of the thirteen children came to light when the Turpins seventeen year old daughter escaped from the home and called 911 with a phone she had taken. It is believed that she has a lower mental capacity then her age would suggest.
The kids slept through the day and have to be awake during the night, chained to the beds and not allowed to use the restroom. The children got mocked by the parents by tempting them with food, and depriving them of water.
“As a prosecutor, there are some cases that haunt you,” Riverside County District Attorney Mike Hestrin stated. He continued by saying “some deal with human depravity, and that’s what we’re dealing with here.”
The parents tortured the kids in other ways. They would buy new toys but would not open them, they would put pies on the counter, but wouldn’t let them eat it. All of this occurred plus the aforementioned torture.
Sophomore Eric Bain commented, “It’s an awful thing that [has] happened to these kids.”
“It sucks that this could impact the future of these kids lives,” said sophomore Michael Johnston.
Sophomore Jacob Green stated that “I hope other cases like this get caught.”
Both parents were charged with twelve counts of torture, seven counts of abuse of a dependent adult, six counts of child abuse or neglect, and twelve counts of false imprisonment. David was also charged with a lewd act with a child.
