Winter Is Definitely Here — How Do WHS Students Feel About That?
by Andrew Mori
The temperature can change at any time and when the season actually starts isn’t when the temperature changes. In Maryland, winter starts December 21st and ends March 20th, but it starts getting cold around the end of November. It tends to warm up around the end of February, but who knows when it will stop being cold this year.
Sophomore Matthew Clegg said, “It all depends on the year because last year it wasn’t cold until like January. [At] Christmas it was like 70 degrees outside, but this year it got cold in November.”
Senior Rian Wright said, “It feels like winter starts in November and ends in like February. But, I know it starts in December which is weird because it’s already really cold by then.”
“It feels like winter started in October last year [because] it was so cold around Halloween. This is like the coldest it’s ever been and there hasn’t even been much snow. So the cold isn’t even worth it,” said junior Anthony Calderon.
Junior Christina Corchado added, “It feels like winter starts somewhere in November and ends in February. Sometimes it starts earlier or later and ends later. It just depends.”
“I think winter starts in December and ends in March, but that’s not when it gets cold. It usually gets cold in late November and stops being cold,” said freshman Jaziah Thompson.
Freshman Hannah Angulo commented, “It feels like winter starts in November or December, and ends in January or February.”
Everyone has different thoughts on when it starts and ends and different thoughts on winter in general. Although most people don’t even like the cold, and when there’s no snow it’s even worse.
